“You gain strength, experience and confidence by every experience where you really stop to look fear in the face… You must do the thing you cannot do” Eleanor Roosevelt
I wanted to go out today but instead I ended up in bed all day reading and watching T.V… I felt so lazy to go out moreover it was raining heavily again and I still don’t feel well. I still have fever and my throat hurts and my chest hurts and my whole body hurts. So bed, and books sounds great… The T.V was something additional since I don’t really watch T.V.
The first book I pick up to read was Chicken Soup for the Soul. This is definitely one of my favourite book. It always teaches me to look at things from different perspectives. Whenever I feel down and out I always seem to find a story to learn and it’ll make me feel better.
“Most people are as happy as they make up their minds to be” Abraham Lincoln
After reading for half a day I decided to go for my lunch and I notice this old couple having lunch with their children an grand children. Made me think a bit. I hope me and Lynn will be around to see our grand children. When I got back to the hotel I decided to see how many famous old people from various field I could think of who contributed to society…
1) Winston Churchill at 81 was Prime Minister.
2) Clara Barton at 83 was chief of the Red Cross.
3) Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. at 90 was chief justice of the United States.
4) Connie Mack at 88 was a manager at winning baseball team.
5) Toscanini at 87 was a world famous conductor.
6) Conrad Adenauer at 89 was chancellor of Germany.
Below is one of the two story I’ll share today…
1) Politics Explained
A farmer died and he went to heaven. At heaven gate St. Peter the gate keeper ask him if he was on foot or on horseback. The man then answered that he was on foot. St. Peter then told him that he can’t enter into heaven. Only those on horseback can enter heaven.
Upon hearing this the man began his journey back to the living. As he was walking back he saw two politicians and out of kindness he told them that they can’t enter heaven unless on horseback.
At first they were dejected then one of the politicians had an idea. He told the farmer if he went on all fours and gallop like a horse all three of them could enter into heaven.
So the farmer agreed to the idea and went on all fours. The two politicians went on the farmers back and they all went up to heaven again. At the pearly gate St. Peter again ask on foot or mounted. The politicians immediately answered we’re both mounted. St. Peter than said come in to heaven and leave your horse outside. As such both the men walk in to heaven leaving the poor farmer outside heaven.
Moral of the story: Never trust a politician. They are nothing but LIARS.
2) What We hear
Uncle Jo was a little short of hearing, so his niece send him to see a doctor. When the doctor met Uncle Jo, he ask the old man if he drinks alcohol and coffee regularly. Uncle Jo confirm with the doctor that he needed his coffee every morning and his double whiskey shot every night. Upon hearing this the doctor told Uncle Jo that if he wanted his hearing to be better he had to give up his coffee and whiskey. Uncle Jo thought for awhile and said “I like what I’ve been drinking so much more than what I’ve been hearing, so I reckon I’ll just get on more deaf”.
With that Uncle Jo left the doctor’s place.
Moral of the story: Sometimes it’s best to be deaf to what people say.
There is so much more to share but than I guess I am just too lazy to type. However I think I’ll leave one Chinese proverb that’s always in the back of my head before I log off…
Education for Life
If you fish for a man, you’ll feed him for a meal.
If you teach a man how to fish, you’ll feed him for the rest of his life. If you’re thinking a year ahead, sow seed. If you’re thinking ten years ahead, plant a tree. If you’re thinking a hundred years ahead, educate the people. By sowing seed, you’ll harvest much. By planting a tree, you’ll harvest tenfold. By educating the people, you’ll harvest a hundredfold.
